Subtitle Translator: Translate SRT Files with AI, Keep the Timing
Translate an SRT, VTT, ASS or SBV subtitle file into 17 languages with AI that reads subtitles in context, not line by line. Timing is kept exactly; download a bilingual SRT or the translation only. Sign in with a free Lumi account to use your included AI quota.
Why it reads better than line-by-line translation
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Context-aware batches | Lines are sent in batches of up to a few thousand characters, so a sentence split across cues is translated as one thought. |
| Timing untouched | Every translated line keeps its original start and end time; nothing is re-timed or merged. |
| Bilingual or translation only | Download a two-line bilingual SRT for language learning, or a translation-only SRT. |
| 17 languages | English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German and more. |
| Resumable | If a batch fails or the quota runs out, finished lines are kept and only the missing ones are retried. |
Questions
- How do I translate an SRT file?
- Open the .srt file here, choose the target language and press Translate. The text of each cue is translated by Lumi AI while its timestamps stay exactly as they were, then you can download a bilingual or translation-only SRT that any player or editor accepts.
- Is the subtitle translator free?
- It runs on Lumi AI, which every Lumi account includes a monthly quota for, free accounts too. You need to sign in so the usage can be counted. The quota left is shown after the first batch.
- Why does it need an account when the other tools don't?
- The other tools run entirely in your browser. Translation calls a language model, which costs money per character, so it is tied to an account's quota to keep it from being abused.
- Can I make bilingual subtitles?
- Yes. Choose Bilingual before downloading and each cue will contain the original line with the translation underneath, which is ideal for learning a language from videos.
- Where does my data go?
- Subtitle text is sent to Lumi AI for translation. The result is saved to your account so a retry is never charged twice.
On YouTube and Bilibili the extension translates the live caption track into bilingual subtitles as you watch, with no file to export or upload.
